A deadly fungus that can rot human tissue is spreading fast across the US, and experts say it could get worse as the weather gets hotter. The fungus is called Aspergillus fumigatus. It spreads through the air and is almost impossible to avoid. The spores are so small that people breathe them in without knowing.
Its on the rise, still got my fingers crossed for zombies. Seriously though watch out if you are in high population area especially if there is also lots of homelessness.
WHAT? Okay, Last of Us vibes not withstanding, where else is this getting reported. And damn, I’m dripping and sneezing a ton lately from whatever pollen is in the air. So, freak me out indeed.
Just clicked on the link to the Hindustan Times, got a 404 that the article is not found. Is that like the National Inquirer??? Seriously.
Of course, best source, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspergillus_fumigatus

Okay, so since there are more immuno-compromised individuals, and those who are taking drugs to suppress some parts of their immune system (think recovering chemo or accident patients), definitely more risk and they estimate currently yearly 600K people are dying because of these fungal infections. And the fungus is, naturally, evolving resistance to some of the treatments because some of the treatments rely on compounds used in agriculture. Yep, “The Last of Us” might be a forewarning.
