Courts split on National Guard: Blocked in Illinois, likely permitted in Oregon

Two federal courts diverged sharply Thursday in their treatment of President Donald Trump’s efforts to send National Guard troops into American cities. A federal district judge in Chicago halted the administration’s plan to deploy the guard in Illinois as part of Trump’s immigration enforcement campaign. Meanwhile, a federal appeals court panel seemed poised to permit Trump to deploy the guard in Oregon.
